The red iPhone! What's different from last time?

Hello. This is Ochiai, the designer.

The red iPhone, which I thought wouldn't be released again, went on sale the other day. Stores are finally getting stock, and this time the red iPhone 8 seems to be very popular. As for models released at the same time, there's also the iPhone X, but it doesn't seem to come in red.

I imagine a lot of people changed models or switched carriers in March, so many are apparently shocked by this timing, thinking "If only it had come out a little sooner…"

Speaking of the red iPhone, last time it was a limited release with the iPhone 7.

This time there doesn't seem to be a limit on units, but the sales period is limited.

As before, part of the proceeds from the red iPhone will apparently be donated to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, and this applies not only to the iPhone but to all Apple products in the RED series.

So, what's different from the previous red iPhone?

The biggest difference is the performance gap between the 7 and the 8.

Water resistance is unchanged, but the 8's new features, such as its CPU and wireless charging, are only available on the 8.

Also, since the iPhone released this time is made entirely of glass, the color appearance is apparently different too.

The biggest visual difference is probably the color of the front.

Last time the front was white, which gave a rather cute impression, but this time it's black, for a cool, stylish finish.

I use the red iPhone 7 Plus, but when I saw the new one in the store, it looked so cool that I found myself wanting to upgrade…

There's nothing inconvenient about my 7 right now, so I'll pass this time, but I'm hoping a red model comes out again a year from now…
