Did you see the two-hour special of Nippon TV's "Odoru! Odoru! Sanma Goten!!" that aired on Tuesday the 11th?
My family happened to be watching it when I got home, so I watched along with them over dinner.
All sorts of topics came up on the show, but what entertainer Naomi Watanabe said really struck a chord and made me laugh, so that's what I'd like to write about this time.
Naomi Watanabe appeared during the segment on the theme "Girls I Can't Stand." Apparently she can't stand girls who post a certain something on social media. And that is…
Girls who make a show of not feeling well… lol
Specifically, girls who post a photo of a thermometer with something like "Oh no, and I have overtime after this," or who take a stylish photo of their IV drip and upload it…
Oh yes, we all know someone like that!
Then there are the girls who post photos of their meals.
I believe she commented something along the lines of "Nobody's interested in your food."
Right — nobody cares!
I'm sure plenty of people are thinking "Oh, that's me…" so I can't be too harsh, but honestly I related so much.
I myself have played up feeling unwell a few times and posted photos of my meals, but one day I thought, "These posts aren't necessary," and stopped.
Another one you hear about a lot is photos from drinking parties.
It may be fun in the moment and among the group, but from the outside it's a bit of a turn-off… I'm sure I've posted some myself, but once I realized that, I stopped.
The same applies to blogs and social media run by shops and companies.
Now that anyone can easily share information, the number of shops and companies running several blogs and social accounts alongside their website or mobile site has shot up — and just like with personal accounts, you see plenty of them posting photos of meals and drinking parties (though surely nobody plays up feeling unwell on a shop or company account).
If you think about what kind of information customers are looking for when they view or follow that account, photos of meals and drinking parties honestly aren't needed, are they?
"We held a welcome party for our new staff member! Please give a warm welcome to our newcomer, ○○!"
"We had lunch with one of our clients at Restaurant △△ while holding a meeting. Restaurant △△'s special pasta comes highly recommended…"
Posts like these are fine, as long as they relate to the shop or company.
But honestly, nobody cares what one staff member had for lunch or where the president went drinking.
I understand wanting to share happy memories, but on an account for a shop or company — one that customers view and follow — you should actively share information that is useful to them and that they actually want.
Otherwise, you may be posting your heart out only to find you've been blocked left and right — what a sad outcome that would be.
I'll be careful myself ^^;
