Merci

Hello. This is Ochiai, the designer.

In this blog post, I'll show you how to blend two photos together using a gradient.

It's probably hard to picture from words alone, so first take a look at this photo.

This image was created by compositing two different photos.

It's very easy to do, so let me walk you through how it works.

First, prepare the two photos you'll be compositing.

Launch Photoshop and open both photos in a single file.

The idea is to place one photo on layer 1 and the other on layer 2.

Next, add a layer mask to the photo placed on top.

Right-click on the layer to open the menu and choose Add Layer Mask. Alternatively, add a layer mask using the layer mask icon at the bottom of the Layers panel.

Once you've added the layer mask, select the Gradient tool. At this point, be sure to reset the color settings to their defaults.

Add a gradient to the layer mask.

The areas filled with black on the layer mask become invisible, which is how you can create an image like this.

Since you can work without altering the original photos, redoing or undoing is easy.

That's it for this simple way to composite photos.

Next time, I'd like to introduce how to composite images using selections.
